Winona Wildcats nabbed the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over Dora on Thursday. The game was tied at 7 with the Wildcats batting in the top of the 6th when Blaine Cooper singled on a 1-2 count, scoring 1 run.
Despite falling down by 4 runs in the second inning, Dora tried to fight back. Dora put up 6 runs in the failed comeback. Hunter Ryan, Colby Collins, Korey Murphy, and Easton Carter each picked up RBI’s.
The Wildcats fired up the offense in the 1st inning. Cooper drove in 2 when he doubled.
After Winona scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, Dora answered with 2 of their own. The Wildcats scored on a stolen base during Tyler Russell’s at bat. Then Russel singled and Rowdy Brown was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Dora then answered when Ryan singled on a 1-1 count, scoring 1 run.
Dora scored 4 runs in the 4th inning. The big inning for Dora came thanks to a single by Murphy and an error on the ball put in play by Collins.
Robert Kapp was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. Kapp surrendered 5 runs on 3 hits over 4 & 2/3’s innings, striking out 5. Jaden Thacker threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Thacker recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Wildcats.
Murphy took the loss for Dora. The Bulldog surrendered 3 runs on 7 hits over 4 innings, striking out 4.
Ryan started the game for Dora. Tyan allowed 5 hits and 5 runs over 1 & 2/3’s innings, striking out 1. Russell started the game for Winona. The pitcher allowed 0 hits and 3 runs over 1 & 1/3 innings, striking out 1.
The Wildcats collected 14 hits. Thacker, Cooper, Russell and McCade Dixon all managed multiple hits for Winona. Thacker went 4 for 4 at the plate to lead the Wildcats in hits. Winona tore up the base paths, as 2 players stole at least 2 bases. Dixon led the way with 4.
Dora was sure-handed and didn’t commit a singer error. Collins made the most plays with 8. Dora stole 5 bases during the game as 2 players stole more than 1.
