The Missouri State Water Patrol recently visited Winona School to educate students about the importance of boater safety. The program aims to raise awareness among young people about how to stay safe while enjoying Missouri’s many lakes and rivers. Upon completion of the course, a test is given. Passing the test allows students to receive their Boater Certification Card Request.
During the visit, the officer spoke to students about essential safety practices, including the importance of wearing life jackets, understanding boating laws, and recognizing potential hazards on the water. They also explained how weather conditions, alcohol use, and lack of preparation can lead to dangerous situations.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from trained professionals who work to keep waterways safe. Interactive demonstrations helped reinforce key lessons, making the experience both educational and engaging.
By bringing boater safety education into schools, the Missouri State Water Patrol hopes to build responsible habits early and reduce accidents on the water. The program highlights the importance of safety, responsibility, and awareness for everyone who enjoys Missouri’s waterways.
